Lesson Plan on Recycling

Image
This is a lesson plan that I created for early learners about recycling. Recycling is part of learning about student health and wellness. This lesson is a Project-Based Lesson because after instruction the students are asked to create recycling boxes they can take home to encourage them and their families to recycle. This lesson plan caters to every type of learner and is filled with differentiated teaching methods. For auditory, visual and even ELL students there is a visual presentation given to the students which includes a video about recycling. At the beginning of the lesson kinesthetic learners benefit by the campus walk about where we identify waste and recyclables and where each are disposed. Final assessment of knowledge will be done by the informal method of having the students share what they have learned about recycling with the class. One idea to assess would be to give each student a recyclable item and have them place it in the appropriate recycling type bin that match

Grouping Decisions in the Classroom

My goal is to become a first-grade teacher next year and in my Masters in Education class about differentiated instruction this week we have been focusing on cooperative learning. Grouping patterns within the classroom have become a major method of teaching in the 21 st century. One important content area in this grade level is writing. Students at this age can write but are working on writing legibility and learning the structure of sentences. One grouping pattern I could use for a writing activity would be pairing. Having students check one another’s writing throughout the lesson would be a great way for them to take pride in their writing and stay engaged in the lesson. Pairing students with heterogenous strengths would be important when utilizing this pairing technique because I want the students who have stronger writing abilities to help and set an example for those students who might have poor writing skills. I want to use homogenous grouping for writing assignments involvi

There are so many ways to differentiate content for any area you are teaching. When choosing ways to differentiate content it’s important to first know your students and the different ways they learn best. Some students have a different first language, some students have special needs, and some students are advanced or gifted learners. So how can I differentiate the ways in which I present and stretch information to reach as many students as I can within the classroom?             For English Language Learners incorporating visual components to the lesson plan is very important to me. I will be teaching in Southern California so ELL students will have a strong presence in my classroom each and every year. During the content presentation I would make sure there are a lot of pictures and videos to help explain the content beyond the verbal content I am providing. It may also help to have some of the titles and signs in both Englis

My introduction into blogging...

My name is Jennifer Chavez and I am a 33 year old single mother to an amazingly beautiful 7 year old little girl named Raelyn. My drive to become a mother started at an early age and when I was only 24 I almost lost my life to a pulmonary embolism in my left lung along with the chance to become the mother I always dreamed I would be. After this brush with death I took out a new lease on life and kicked my own butt into high gear finally earning my Bachelor of Science in General Biology and gave birth to a healthy 5 pound baby girl who would forever change my future. I have worked as a Senior Pharmacy Technician for 15 years and always pushed to pursue a career in medicine. I am great at my job but I have never been able to grow and feel as inspired as I do within the walls of a classroom full of children. If it wasn't for my daughter I would have never found my true calling as a teacher. Through working with the public I have learned to communicate and understand people from so
